Q: When can my dancer begin pointe work?

Dancers typically begin Pointe between the ages 9-13. This is dependent on each individual students facility & training. The teacher will check for correct body position and alignment, sufficient turnout, strength and balance, and mastery of basic ballet techniques. Teachers will inform a student when they’re ready to begin pointe work. In order to be able to dance on pointe, a dancer must have had time to achieve the form, strength, and alignment needed to make a successful transition into pointe work. Proper technique is required to be able to properly rise on the toes without risks of injury. Dancers are encouraged to train a minimum of 3 days per week if wishing to begin pointe work.
